The Weaving Mill

The Weaving Mill is an artist-run industrial weaving studio based in Chicago, IL that specializes in limited-edition artist collaborations as well as in-house design and production.

Founded in 2015 by Emily Winter and Matti Sloman, The Mill aims to fill the space between the handmade and industrially produced, bringing the mechanics of textile production into wider view. In partnership with social services agency Envision Unlimited, The Weaving Mill provides textile education workshops for adults with developmental disabilities.

NAMU’s founder Jung first collaborated with The Weaving Mill in 2015 on an edition of loom woven blankets engaging the material process of weaving with it’s gridded warp and weft as an organizing system to create compositions staging complex interplays of color and geometry. That collaboration has continued to grow as The Mill produces many of NAMU’s woven textiles.
